Our next trip is on the beautiful Bayou Deview with 1000 year old cypress and Tupelo. We will meet at T-Ricks in Hazen at 10AM. This is at the I40 exit 193. Bring lunch, drinks and snacks or stock up in Hazen. I hope that we can do the Hickson Lake to Apple Lake paddle but right now the road into Hickson is flooded. If it remains flooded we will do Hwy 17 to to the railroad bridge. The forecast is for mostly sunny and 50 degrees. Hope to see you there.

Keep an eye on this post. I will update with any changes.

CSM, I think your boat will be fine. At low water, there are a lot of sticks and cypress knees that could present some problems for a skin-on-frame boat, and at some times we also have a little bit of current. But for this specific trip, I'm expecting relatively high water levels and minimal current, so the chances of poking a hole in your boat should be pretty small.

I should be able to make this one. I hope the temps stay in the 50s or above.

Hi Debbie,

I'm interested in going and have a couple of questions. Can you tell me appro. how many miles we will paddle? I know it will depend on which trip we end up paddling. Do you know about how long the group is normally on the water during the trips? I'll be driving from the Mount Ida area and have a fundraiser I am wondering if I will make it back to in time. Thanks for any input...and thanks for putting the trip together. Hope to see ya'll Saturday. Looks like it is shaping up to be another BEAUTIFUL day....

Cindy Barry

This trip and timing is great. I've been wanting to paddle DeView and was planning on paddling some Saturday anyways. Glad to have a chance to meet up with some of you.

For anyone interested here is a link to the Bayou DeView Water Trail Map and the Google Earth .kml file to see the access points. https://app.box.com/s/jtie049gy4dzmiml7p1prol7987hqyw6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hope to see you all there.

Cindy,

Debo asked Aly and I to lead Saturday's float due to a funeral she and Cowper will be attending.

We'll probably wind up floating from Hwy 17 to the Rock Island RR bridge takeout which is approximately 7.5 miles. Last month Debbie floated this stretch and they were on the water for about four hours.

Hope to see you Saturday!

I am sorry to miss this trip. I always like seeing new faces and getting their first impressions of Bayou Deview. Thanks to Bryan and Aly for leading this trip. I will be at a memorial celebrating the life of another friend who loved rivers. Everybody have a great time. Can't wait to hear about it.

Debo,

I'm excited about the 1000 year old trees! Sorry you and Cowper will not be there. I've visited with Cowper a few trips down the Caddo (now I pick trash up EVERYWHERE I go...thanks, Cowper! (smile)) Hope to get to meet/visit with you soon. Thanks for your conservation efforts!!!!! Cindy Barry

I'm bowing out (as opposed to sterning out :crazy: ) of this one since the temps are sure to be minimal for my taste and cloud cover and rain chances are too probable. :thumbdown:

Wish this were going to take place on Sunday when it's going to be sunny and in the 70's! What a difference a day makes in Arkansas!

I hate to bow out but I'm seeing a high of around 46° and 40% of rain. Hope you all stay warm and dry.
