A group of us Northwest members got together for an overnight float this past weekend. We started out with 16 confirmed members but through attrition and life getting in the way we ended up with 12. Sorry I couldn't open it up to the ACC as a whole, or even the Northwest chapter, it was full before the idea was conceived. Just goes to show we need to be doing more of these.
The plan was to float from Woolum to Tyler Bend (~15 miles). However, a winter storm warning loomed on the horizon and no forecaster could predict when or where it would so we shortened the trip to Woolum to Baker Ford. This allowed us to get off the river early on Sunday and back home before the storm.
8 of us camped at Woolum on Friday evening and the others met us Sat am. A couple of us got up early on Sat. and hiked to the Narrows on the OHT. We ran our own shuttle and got on the river by noon. Temps were in the 70s and for the most part the high winds were at our backs pushing us down the river. We stopped at Jameison Bluff to have lunch and play some bocce ball. We took advantage of the warm weather and floated all the way to Peter Cave Bluff and pitched camp. That left us with about a mile to paddle out on Sunday. Good thing, it was cold (~25 degrees) in the morning but the sun was out so it felt warmer.
For those that have never floated this section, it is a must. Get it in the winter and you won't see another boat.

I say, and I intend it emphatically, let the river be.

It was a great section of river with great folks but
we are going to have to work on our "Gangsta" pose.
I doubt we strike fear into any rival river gangs.

My Favorite River is the one that I'm paddling.
