We will paddle Wattensaw Bayou Saturday January 31. This is a flat water float with very large Cypress trees.

Meet at T Ricks in Hazen off I40 exit 193 at 9:00am. Planning a short trip from the first boat ramp to the middle access or down to Wattemsaw Camp and back depending on water level. This is about 4 miles to middle access or 6 mile round trip to the campsite.

Lunch on the river, supper somewhere after. Hope to see you there!

We're off to a good start. We just can't seem to catch a break on the weather. The chance of rain is very low but it's going to be pretty chilly.

Very nice float today. Although temps were pretty cool, the rain predicted earlier held off and water levels were optimum. Plenty of water to float over the log jam, yet low enough to appreciate the size of the big cypress trees. There were eighteen of us on the river. We stopped for a long lunch at the new, not yet finished , water accessible campsite. We checked on the baby turtles that are spending the winter buried in the gravel pile near the camp. They were accidentally uncovered during a work day about two months ago. They seem to still be doing fine. I would like to be there to see them head for the water in the spring.

We got off the river early and ran the long shuttle to the top while Carl Scott and his daughter Addi paddled back upstream to the put in. Eight of us stopped at Nick's Barbeque in Carlisle for dinner; Lot's of good food and good company.

Did anyone check to see that Carl and Addi made it back ok? That shuttle is so long I wonder if they could paddle faster than we could drive.

Yes, Debbie checked.

They were getting off the river about the time we were getting off the freeway to eat at Nick's.
