I am thinking about heading to N. Sylamore Creek Trail this weekend with my two teenage girls for a day hike. I've not been there in like 35 years. Without a shuttle vehicle, I'm assuming it will be an out and back deal. Anyone have an opinion on the best section for an out and back?
Cripple Turkey to Barkshed
Barkshed to Gunner Pool
Gunner Pool to Blanchard
Blanchard to Allison
I can get a shuttle but due to cost I probably won't. If I did, it would likely be the Blanchard to Allison section as the shuttle is less expensive.

Pick the section that is downhill both ways.
Anyway, good for you in getting the kids outside!

I like the section from Barkshed to Gunner. I have an Ozark Society day hike there March 7. We're hiking one way if you want to wait and do it with us then. The section above going from Barkshed would make a good out and back hike. You need to get a second car and hiker to make it a thru hike. Have fun.

Gordon, I don't see how that kayak you lost on EFLB could make it up Sylamore Creek. Down to the White River, maybe, but not up Sylamore. I know you're still looking for it, but ...

I figure that if it magically got as far as the White it damn sure could have magically took a right turn at Allison and headed upstream on the Sylamore. :)
