Ever changing Caddo

Post by Chicago Bob » Thu Oct 16, 2014 9:38 am

I paddled the lower Caddo yesterday and found new trees down and some shifting of the stream bed as expected. But the big surprise was at the Glenwood access where the low water bridge has been removed. In addition to this, loose gravel has been added along the the put-in drive. This has left the entry to the water a bit steeper and the loose gravel gives way under foot. I chose to seal launch the 2 1/2 foot drop. I just wanted to inform everyone that thing have changed in Glenwood. BOB

Hey Bob,

Thanks for your report! I assume you are referring to the Game&Fish access there at the cemetery? There was an old low-water bridge just below this current access, but it was pretty well all washed away in a flood in the 1980's as were three other similar bridges on the Caddo in the same event. There was a little bit of the bridge approach left on this one since, but it was mostly all gone. I can't fathom why anyone would spend the money and effort to remove what little was left unless they are wanting to do some kind of other development there. Thanks again for the report, I'll be curious to take a look next time I'm over that way.

Best Regards
Jim
