What's the problem?

What causes this? Can it/does it need to be fixed?

Either it took a hit and got "crinked" or there is some "delamination" between plastic layers. Is it spongy? Cracks on inside?

I concur with Tim's diagnosis. Looks like it might have been pinned slightly for a while, bent and then flexed back. Got a pic of the inside.
