I was hoping for tips and guidance. I'm a novice when it comes to floating. My experience consists of renting a canoe and floating down the Caddo a handful of times. My wife recently bought me an inflatable, two seater Kayak for my birthday. I was wondering what the conditions on the Little Maumelle Water Trail would be like this time of year. Would this be doable for someone of my skill level and would the water be floatable this time of year?
Also, what other areas can I take the kayak out in central Arkansas this time of year?
Thanks!

The Remmel Dam to Rockport impromptu float trips we make most Saturdays from now on this Summer could be just what you are looking for. Cold water, rapids, great gravel bars to swim, long boring pool toward the end, and then,
'killer fang' waterfall at the end

You think an inflatable could handle that?

Re: Little Maumelle Water Trail
I have an IK as well, which I bought for even more frisky river sections than I feel comfortable in in my hard kayak.
If your IK is of good quality, properly inflated, not overloaded, etc. etc., the Remmel Dam section should be just fine.
I have certainly paddled the Little Maumelle River section you mentioned, however since the weather is warmer now, I more enjoy the Remmel section of the Ouachita River now for the cooler water and areas along the way to swim.

Re: Little Maumelle Water Trail
If the Little Maumelle is close by and you want to get out and practice with your boat/ explore the river, I would go for it. Quite a few of us float the section from Pinnacle Mountain S.P. down about four miles or so to the Pinnacle Valley Rd. every New Years Day. Very nice bottomland/ swamp feel to the river with many Cypress trees, and nice mountain vistas too, also good fishing if you like that. This time of year though, I can only imagine the waters a little low to get through the first mile of the section very easily.
From my limited experience in my IK so far, I can see they are a bit more fun on a river with current and rapids to push you along, much more so than long sections of flat water. Have fun!

Bj Heilman of OMTC has said they will donate some items as well. We should have enough items in the raffle now that several people will be able to take something home. Awesome awesome awesome!
