Question for Ted about Rockport

Please estimate how many more days of "too high" flows at Rockport before a "normal" release. Thanks.

Subject: Flow Release Plans as of June 16, 2014

The Corps is releasing about 6,000 CFS from Blakely Mountain Dam. Lake Ouachita should drop down out of the flood pool some time today. If so, then at midnight flow releases from Blakely and Carpenter will stop and Remmel will go to a minimum flow. We will then begin the planned release schedule.

The plan for this week is to release about 3600 CFS from 10 AM to 10 PM except for Saturday which will be from 9 AM to 10 PM.

The Corps at DeGray is releasing about 2,200 CFS from 1 to 9 PM daily.

What is the best flow range for Rockport Playspot?...I am new to the area.

A "normal" release is around 3600 cfs. Fun holes and waves all across the ledge.

There are some paddlers who like to go out at higher flows (10k and more) to surf the large waves that form.

It takes ~2.5-3 hours for the water to get from the dam to the ledge so keep that in mind when deciding when to head out there.

I didn't know large waves formed above 10K. I thought it just smoothed out. Learn something new every day. But I hate learning it from Bryan.

We watched Micah and Chris surf last summer around 12k and it looked like fun for them.

I went out at 10,500 and liked it better than the normal. The river left wave is pretty much washed out, but if you ferry to the other side, tigers jaw is a nice glassy wave and a sweet spin hole happens to river left of Big Rock. The sweet surf waves form about 30 yards downstream of the ledge and form a few trains.
