Found this. A more recent story said the circumstances were still under investigation, but this does sound like a potentially straight-forward explanation for how such a thing could happen.

Yeah I had seen this in the Springfield paper, Being on the river would be a tough place to deal with a seizure!

Not much details at all, except that it was near Woolum....
The Springfield article makes no mention of it, but it appears the primary cause was an epilectic seizure in deep water. Very very sad. It sounds like the gentleman's son was on the trip. Just saw that you edited your post. Thank you.
