Buffalo River floats

The last few times we have [tried] to enjoy the river it seems our pick for sections to float and camp were also many others pick. I recall one summer floating the Gilbert to Maumee section . We hardly had any company for the two days. The middle sections seems we have done in the winter months. So whats your pick for float/camp sections on the Buffalo? Eric and Richard I am expecting replies from you! So wake up.

I've found that the days you choose can be as important as the location. I prefer to go midweek rather than a weekend. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are far less crowded. Hope this helps.

Crowds are part of the experience on accessible streams in the summer, especially the Buff. Just no way around it. The only way to avoid them on the weekends is to float from Rush down, which also happens to be a fantabulicious float.

I second Gilbert to Maumee and Rush to Buff city/white river confluence. Those stretches are probably the least-paddled in most cases. If you have to go on the weekend, I would just accept that you will run into folks, it is an awesome river, after all :)

Well guess Eric and Richard have not woke up yet. The last section is the only part we have not been on yet. I have heard lots about it just ain't made it. That section cost alot to get vehicle placement.

Well if you haven't done that section what is there to discuss? Been a while since I have, but I don't recall the shuttle being too outrageous. Check with BRFS.

So about that last section. If you was to guess on how long the areas of no current. What would ya say? I made a removeable mount for a trolling motor to put on a canoe. Was thinking of using it there. Are the good camping spots plentiful? Tried calling BRFS yesterday but they were closed for the day. Try again today. The take out we thought of doing was the private owned fish camp on the other side of White where Buffalo dumps in. Sound good?

with levels now, You will have current all the way down. In later summer... maybe not. South winds can be bothersome as well.

Sections at hi way crossings are going to have more traffic. The tourists. Early or later starts can avoid lots of the traffic on the river and putins. Noon rush. Gilbert down. Above Baker. Places like that see much less summer clumps and as mentioned, a weekday is much less populated. Something to be said for easy shuttles, though. Some of the more remote and isolated sections take hours to shuttle or cost as much as 70bux.

What he said. As to plentiful camping spots, yes, and when I need advice or service from BRFS I usually just email Aaron and he responds within 24 hours. Very nice folks. And, FWIW my M.O. is to just tell him where my truck is and approximately when I plan to be at the takeout and he takes it from there. I think that's better for him because he can just work it in when it's convenient.

This rig allows the comfort camp to be hauled on the trailer, and the rear door of the SUV to be opened while loaded.

The upper Buffalo has several float/camp options.
Kyles Landing is the largest campground.
If you want a quiet, small site I would recommend the Carver site.
Start from Pruitt (5 miles) or Hasty (2 miles).

I am curious about the kanoos produccing more drag on won side than the uther.
