Saturday the 26th I was to meet Doug Webber at the outfitters at Klyes but could never find him, as the place was rockin! so I proceeded to Steels creek hoping to find him there. I never did find him but later ran into him on the river. Steel creek was mass chaos and the river was like a bumper boat playground...I bet every outfitter in the are had all there boats rented. I had with me my friend from work Tara and her five year old daughter Samara, Tara had no experience in a canoe so I showed her some basic strokes, pries, and draws. I have taught allot of people through the years, and Tara was a natural in the boat and was reading the river well. We saw allot of turnovers, pins and carnage. I took my old beat up Mohawk a good boat for that kind of water....It was at the lower end of floatable, I bought along a bean bag chair for Samara to sit it the middle of the boat, it worked very well. Tara wanted to hike to Hemmed in Hollow, so I told her to go ahead and pulled the bean bag chair to a shady spot and took a nap, got lots of comments about it, I was the queen of comfort!!!! We did not flip or get into any trouble at all. Got off the river around 5 and went into Jasper for gas and grub. Tara headed home and I headed over to highway 65 and shine-eye beach to camp. There was 2 other familes there when I rolled in around 9pm Got my tent set up and realized I forgot a light blanket for cover and all I had was a beach towel, thene I remembered I had the rainfly and hoped it wasn't going to rain and used it for a blanket. It didnt rain and it was just perfect for the night. Got up, broke camp and went to Fergusons for breakfast and then to Tyler bend . There wasnt but about 5 people camped there, which surprised me, thought the place would be packed. Got home at 11 am with light rain from Clinton south, Had a great day on the river, the only downside of it was the road and shuttle to Kyles THAT ROAD has only gotten worse through the years......Pam
