Central headed to Mulberry 4/12

Post by Lupe » Wed Apr 09, 2014 10:52 pm

A group of us is planning to head to the Mulberry for some pre-WW school scouting of the river.

UPDATE: see post below for Saturday plans

We tentatively plan to stay and camp at TB Saturday night to paddle again on Sunday (subject to change depending on Sunday's t'storm forecast).

We'll be checking out a couple stretches in preparation for our classes, so having some newer paddlers along as test subjects would be just fine.

We have no real schedule or agenda laid out...probably stake out a campsite at Turner Bend Saturday morning and then head to the river about noon.

Since we're reconnoitering, expect a leisurely pace while we assess river features.

Partly because of Sunday rain chances and partly just because we’re so busy right now, we decided to NOT camp this weekend and just do a single long day on the Mulberry. Here’s our plan:

Meet at Little Mulberry put in at 35.673265,-93.665664. Since we’re meeting here, for those of us coming from Central it’s faster to drive up and over the mountains from Clarksville. Put those coordinates in Google maps and it should show you the way. Our plan is to be at the put in at 10:30, and for those who know me, you know that means I will be there at 10:30 - NOT SOONER.

This will be our put in, so we’ll offload boats and gear and then run some cars downstream. Because Liz and I want to scout a couple different stretches for ww school, we’re going to do a kinda long day, although not crazy long. We plan to go all the way from Little Mulberry to Redding, which is 10.5 miles or so. From Little Mulberry it’s 2 miles to High Bank, then 4.5 miles to Byrds, then 3.5 miles to Redding. We suggest that we could leave a car at Byrd's as well as Redding in case anyone has had enough, but if everyone is gung ho to go the whole way with us, that’s great too.

We believe we have enough in our group that we have shuttle covered, but if others want to join, please post up! This is a caravan from Central, but we'd be happy to see others from where ever if you want to show up!
