Severe weather advice

So, last year I had a random thought that indeed might sound really goofy but I'm convinced might save a life. For those of us who have a store room or garage full of paddling/bike helmets and PFD's, why not store them or at least move them temporarily to your designated hidy hole when there is a tornado warning? If your house comes crashing in upon you and yours, the helmet and PFD might just be the last thing between you and flying/crushing debris that might kill or disable you otherwise.

We have worn helmets before when tornados were touching down in the area around us. I've also seen photos on FB from cycling friends where they (and family members) had helmets on while huddling in the tornado shelter/bathroom.

Great idea wearing the PFD...never thought of that. Any helmet will help (kayak, football, motorcycle, bike). I've put on a bike helmet many times. Also, make sure you have your phone with you and grab a gallon of water on the way to your safe spot. I live in an earth-bermed shipping container so I don't worry about weather as much as I have in the past.

Great idea! Especially if your PFD contains a loud rescue whistle for search teams after the roof comes down. Time to head to the basement...

Or,,,,, Strap on you helmet and walk into the bedroom and toss your spare to your new half dressed lover. Tell her "Your gonna need this" What a delight!

I tried to live without tech (was without for about 10 yrs) until I joined ACC. Hard to find paddling buddies without laptop/cellphone. Have pics on my fancy new camera that I barely know how to use...but haven't gotten so far as downloading and wouldn't have a clue how to post a pic. Man...things have really changed in the last 10 years! Sorry.
