I seem to remember there being a good place just past sneeds creek on river right. I'll see if I can find the coordinates...

Prophet,

There should be some very nice places to camp just across the Buffalo river from Indian Creek, and maybe a little upstream.. There is a large 'inside' curve of the river with a homestead, like Granny Henderson's, the 'Arbaugh' homestead. I can't speak to any opportunities of camping on the immediate riverside , but their old place encompassed a large area of wooded flat lands along the stream that would probably be very nice for camping just up off the river. If you have a copy of the National Geographic/Trails Illustrated maps, the extent of the area is pretty large. Indian Creek flows into the Buffalo at the very downstream part of the Arbauch's place, but camping there should offer pretty good access to Indian Creek.
Best Regards
Jim

There's a wonderful small hidden spot immediately to the left at Bear Creek Hollow. It's high, secluded, level. Pull your boat up on the left side and immediately go up the slope. Just don't tell any unworthies (non-ACC, non leave no trace practitioners) about this, please. And of course on river right just around the bend at Big Bluff if that's not too far upstream.

btw, at Hwy 65 there were no trash cans. We asked the ranger who happened to be there where we might find some and he offered to take it to Tyler Bend for us. VERY nice guy, didn't catch his name.

Guess they were serious about removing trash receptacles from certain river access points. I will be up around the woolum/bakers ford/Gilbert area here in a few weeks for a multi-day, will report back on condition of the access points.

Was informed by my trusty outfitter that The Park's funding has been restored to pre sequester levels. The trash can situation can be fixed if enough people call and complain. My friend told me that Superintendent Cherri is not aware of any problems if he is not informed by the general public. If you want the trash cans brought back, please call or email Superintendent Cherri. Phone # 870-741-5443

Hollohead, that number is not in service.

Does anyone know if there are trash cans at Steel Creek or Kyles?

I was at Steel Creek on Tuesday. There were no trash cans. I believe it is a park wide policy now. It is a part of the give-us-a-hand campaign. I was pleasantly surprised to not find much litter or debris in the area.

Thanks Barry, I'll bring a good supply of contractor bags to haul our trash out this weekend.

Sorry Randy, I talked with Keith S. the Maintenance super for a good while the other day, good intentioned guy who really spent a lot of time explaining the Park's situation to me. Even though the timing makes this appear to be related to the sequester, it really is something that has been in the works for awhile. Bottom line is that funding is drying up, and the park is slowly getting squeezed down. Erbie campground is probably done for good and other areas will follow if things don't change. He told me to contact my congressman, I told him I no longer had any faith in any branch of our Government, but that I would do just that. Keith also told me that the park had lost funding for 24 full time positions in the past few years, and needed help from outside organizations to just take care of basic services. We also talked about the hog farm, and I was happy to hear his passionate anger at this tragedy. I let him know that my son Matt and I will be helping out at Steele Cr, this summer and do a trash pickup as often as we go, which most of the time is daily. All in all, a pretty sad state of affairs for what I consider the crown jewel of Arkansas. There has already been a big backlash from out of state visitors about the hog farm. Outfitters are reporting that people are canceling their yearly trips to the Buff in protest to the stupidity of this development, and generally express disbelief that this went down the way it did. Local landowners have seen their property values drop dramatically, and it is basically impossible to sell any land in that area. Also did not know that the man who fast tracked the C and H farm permit, is related to the Campbells. Correct phone # is 870-741-5443
