Trip Report: Fourche Creek

Post by sig » Mon Mar 24, 2014 10:43 am

Aly and I joined Cowper and Debbie yesterday on Fourche Creek in the middle of Little Rock. We floated from Hindman park to Benny Craig park, a distance of ~2.5 miles.

I saw my first owl on this float! I've never seen one outside of a zoo. He flew across the creek and landed on a branch so we could get a look at him. Very cool!

Was this float trashy? Sure. It's a neglected urban stream... Out of sight, out of mind.

Is there hope to clean it up? I think so and I don't think it's Cowpers enthusiasm rubbing off on me! It'll take an effort on the part of the city to end illegal dumping plus working to stop debris from getting into storm drains. It'll also take a partnership between the Arkansas Canoe Club, Audobon, Game and Fish, Central Arkansas Trails Alliance, etc plus the city of Little Rock and probably Pulaski County.

There appears to be a possibility of 20 miles of water trail here!

Thanks for taking us out there!
