Best time this June to float the Buffalo?

Post by gardencaper » Thu Mar 20, 2014 1:13 pm

We are thinking about the Buffalo in early or mid June. Which week would be best? First week in June or the next week? How will the water level on the Buffalo look for a June canoe trip? I also heard that the Mulberry River is a very nice canoe trip also. Appreciate any info and feedback....

The best time is when it has the water level you're looking for, no way to tell what that will be. Someone will likely offer a more accurate opinion, but from Hwy 65 down would probably have enough water. The Mullberry is also a nice stream, obviously not as much river to work with, but also rainfall dependent.

If you're flexible on where you will float, then you'll probably be OK. There have been times in the last few years that the water was all but gone by the end of May. Hope that won't happen this year.

You can do HWY 14 to Rush Creek pretty much year round on the Buffalo. I have done that section for my birthday in early August the last 3 years. Depending on the rain, a few more floats further up may open up.
