Trees down on Cadron Creek

Post by Gordon Kumpuris » Wed Mar 12, 2014 11:20 am

Heads up... There are a number of downed trees between pinnacle springs bridge and hwy 65 bridge. One in particular is dangerous. The dogleg left rapid/ledge just upstream of the rapid known as cathedral rapid by some could be big trouble. The tree is on the right and blocks 75% of the stream just above the ledge. It is in a blind curve. Someone goobing down, especially in a raft or tandem canoe could be really hosed. At high water or even moderate levels, the strainer caused could be very deadly. Someone already cut some of the top out of the tree to allow passage, but a lot more needs to be removed.

I second the blind curve bit, if you weren't on your toes for strainers it could be very bad. Needs a chainsaw and some elbow grease.

Part of the river's growth, folks. Cut logs there and where do they end up downstream? Give the stream a chance to evolve naturally. Besides, property rights might be in play here.

We had to portage around the first tree down from Pinnicle Springs, the one around the blind curve. The water was at 3.3. You can barely see the downed tree at the top of this photo.
