Cracked Pyrahna! Help!

Post by MerleDaggerd » Wed Feb 12, 2014 3:42 am

Recently purchased a Pyranha Ammo for $200. After carefully reviewing it at my house, it has the slightest crack in the top section where the two recesses are in the boat. It does not look like a high-stress point at all and doesn't flex unless a great deal of force is applied directly. I have a few chunks of HDPE plastic laying around. Thinking about using my soldering iron and just melting the chunks over the crack. Or could this other method work if I applied the plastic directly to the crack?

Pyranha's are known for cracking in the places you mentioned.
I have known at least three other than the one I have.
If you are determined to plastic weld, use some shavings off
the boat itself. Shave some slivers from around the cockpit
area as there should be enough to do the job without endangering
the viability of the boat. Either end will be thick enough to get
some from if needed. The advantage is you know that it will be
compatible plastic that will blend and mend well.
For mine, I have used G-Flex and are happy with the results. It
is "fixed" and sealed but I wouldn't take it down the Hailstone or
an over-nighter. Just a loaner.

Is "cracked Pyranhas" a current problem or just in older boats?
