A ONE-RAPID CREEK, BUT IT'S A DOOZY

Post by CAPTAIN ALEVE » Wed Jan 15, 2014 7:29 pm

I scouted the last two creeks I'm going to look at this year. The first was a real dud, no bedrock and lots of brush, even though it had a gradient of 100 feet per mile. I had high hopes for the second creek to have a lot of paddling potential, but it didn't turn out that way. The creek cuts through a tall rocky ridge as it drains a bowl shaped area ringed by mountains. There was essentially only ONE rapid of any significance; the rest were gravel shoals.

Mike...is this creek on the Ross foundation property? It looks really familiar.

It's Rainy Creek, north of Sims. I think there are two Rainy Creeks in that area; this is the westernmost one. You can drive to the falls.

There are two: top one about 5', bottom about 6' into a big pool.

Do you have a GPS trac that will take you to the falls?
