Re: Hwy 65 billboard
There is a billboard on the bypass in Harrison that states, "Anti Racism is a code word for Anti White", now this. My wife and I own Liquidation Outlet just off the bypass. Are these idiots TRYING to kill this wonderful place to live! What is wrong with these people! There are other ways to make a point, and other ways to help out. This does nothing except make us look like fools! As for us, we love and accept people of all means and color and culture. This makes us just sick.
Re: Hwy 65 billboard
hollohead, I can understand your distress with the code word sign which unfortunately was defaced (wording was altered to include the word love) as I would prefer to allow free speech (political/cultural advertising is just that) not be vandalize. Regardless of how distasteful it may be to me or how it reflects on my community/town/county/state or nation.
As for the sign referring to the Buffalo River tributary/hog farm issue, I would think that this might be a positive reflection on the region/state since the Buffalo National River impacts a greater area than just Newton County (after all, it does run about 150 miles through several counties) in terms of providing year-round and seasonal employment to a far greater number of people than the few employees of the hog mill.
Pretty interesting back story on who was arrested for the vandalism of the code sign and it's timeline. But as long as Thomas Robb is associated with the area, Harrison will be dealing constantly with that image.

Roger, I agree about the free speech aspect, I would never advocate censorship of any persons right to free speech, or the public display of such. But, I just don't think that the river sign is going to change anyone's mind up here, I'm quite sure the hog farmer is laughing at it. I cannot speak to C&H farms owners qualities as a good person, but I do have inside knowledge that the people involved feel a certain measure of revenge against the National Park. I'm afraid that the only thing that the river sign will hurt is tourism and business. I am quite sure that the intent is pure, but I believe that the signs will only create more hatred and resentment of the park, which is beyond belief from longtime locals and landowners. You really do have to live among these folks to get an understanding of the dynamics of the situation, I know so many want to believe differently, but one has to face reality.
