Combine the scenery, the water, and the action, it does not get better than this. Paddler is Burton Greer. Check the video out as well as the links to the photo work of another paddler on the trip. This is the teaser photo shot!!

First of all, that gentleman is the real deal for running that first drop in a open boat, second hanging in there attempting to do the peel out then swimming out with his boat in tow, finally swimming a big time drop with his gear in tow. He gets my vote for the "big cahones" boater of the day.
Second he had a expert team of boating buds. Good kayak rescue setup in the runout pool (I wonder what was next downstream) and a really good throw rope toss by the gentleman with the GoPro. Excellent technique on the rope thrower's part.
All in all one of the best videos I have seen in a while. Bonus was the guy came out of it with his gear and body intact.
Thanks Roger, on a extremely cold day here in Tulsey Town, that got my blood pumping just watching.

Roger that was great it makes it clear why we keep a good group of kayakers close at hand. I just wish the ones that I go with were that helpful. More rain less cold. BOB

What kind of canoe was that? It looked to be plastic.

That looks like an Esquif Ledge which is a plastic canoe. I also believe he was pulled out of the eddy (with a throw rope) because he couldn't swim out of it.

i try to be helpful when really needed. But I also try to never cheat someone out of the joy that comes from a well-executed self rescue.

Boat is a L'Edge (as Brian pointed out) designed by Craig Smerda of Wisconsin and manufactured by Esquif. It's a PE boat similar to what Black Fly is doing.
The rescue was executed by securing the throw rope to the boat and pulling them though the eddy line and into the current. As the video shows, he got pushed into the eddy on the run despite his efforts to avoid it, made two attempts to eddy out before flipping on the third try. Can only imagine the force of that bad boy.
When the boat busted the bottom at the end, it looks like it almost emptied it of any water!!!
Never been in a situation as severe as that, but when I've needed assistance in river situations, it's always been there. Just got to know who you're paddling with as it's the bottom line in this sport.

Wow.

Let's focus on the initial post, please. Let this be a learning thing. Works on all levels of water.
In this case the paddler was obviously welcome on the run considering the difficulty and locale despite the craft of choice. Beat that eddy line on the initial run and he needs no help to knock that out!!!
