West Fork Cleanup - May 17, 2014

Post by Half Ton » Thu Jan 02, 2014 1:03 pm

The 9th Annual West Fork Cleanup will be taking place on Saturday, May 17th.

It may be a flood, It may be a drought, or water levels may be just right for a float along the river.

The Beaver Watershed Alliance could use your help in this effort, and it is a great opportunity to get out and paddle a stretch you might not have ever seen before.

If you would like to claim a river stretch for this event, or volunteer to be a cleanup site leader - please post up.

Hello everyone, old Santa had a GREAT Christmas, now I'm ready to paddle. since I retired 2 years ago my wife and I have been wade fishing and picking up trash from the West Fork riverside park down past the Wreck Hole. So I guess you could say we have taken over that stretch of river. A tuff job but someone has to do it. Also if possible I can help with getting folks to the upper part on the Middle.

AWESOME! No shortage of trash down by the wreck hole and Dye Creek. Thanks for adopting the stretch as well! Your help will be more than appreciated on Feb 22 and May 17.

We'll try to round up some good food and stuff to reward you with for your volunteer time and hard work.

Not a member, but I would like to help. Not sure where west fork is? I live in Russellville and don't mind driving to keep the creeks clean. Let me know
Thanks

Alright, alright, alright! Three interested parties!

The west fork of the white river spans from beautiful downtown Winslow to Fayetteville. We will have check-in locations for volunteers in Winslow, west fork, and Fayetteville. Event headquarters will be at riverside park in west fork and we will give away door prizes and have food for volunteers after the cleanup at this location.

I've seen a couch and washing machine down by the creek if anyone needs one.....

Video Trailer by fellow paddler Trey Marley.....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChYRmIvhYeQ" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Water is looking good for several reaches at this point in time. Great day to check out the new river restoration downstream of HWY 71.

It will take 120 or more volunteers to cleanup Town Branch and all of its major tributaries in Fayetteville and the White River From Winslow to Fayetteville.

Watershed community meeting after cleanup and during lunch, awards, and door prize drawings. One opportunity on the West Fork is to remove a low head dam and create an improved river access if a person wanted to think that was an opportunity and mention it during the watershed meeting....

There should be plenty of water to float from Brentwood down, don't follow the ozark pages gauge. There won't be a lot of whitewater, but who wants that with a boat full of tires. One shouldn't have any trouble finding a floatable line.

Sorry I can't make it this year, but I promise to pick up the next time and every time I float the West Fork.

Maybe we will get some new dam busters after tomorrow night.

Thanks for your efforts, and best of luck. I know you will have a few Winslowians joining you.

My truck is in the shop. If it is not done tomorrow I can not make it. My kayak does not fit on the motorcycle. Sorry.... can not say yet if I will be there.

Hay John, if the river comes up from the rain we are SUPPOSED to get tonight, will we still have the clean up?

Hi Jerry,

We'll be out there rain or shine. If the river comes up enough maybe some folks could paddle from winslow to brentwood.
