UALR Pool winter hours are here now!

Just thought I'd waste some more space regarding the ualr pool.

We started closing at winter hours today, so tomorrow evenings pool session is shortened and times have changed.

The pool will be closing at 7pm for tomorrows session, which means we have to be gone by then. I hope to see some of you there, as I need a fix and with my drysuit out of duty, this is it for me till spring.

ps. as students thus lifeguards will be out of classes, I believe their will not be lifeguards for next Wednesday, so this is likely it for the year. Bring it!

Does this mean that we can have access to the pool at five, or just from six until seven?

Aly, my understanding, and what this has always meant in the past has always been 5 to 7.

The UALR pool is also pretty good about not being "clock watchers" at the front end - I've never seen them object to us being in the pool area prior to 5, staging boats, going to changing room, etc so that we can get in the water right at 5. If there are excise classes or something like that, we move over to the deep end or just share, giving them about 2/3 of the shallow end.

The thing I DON'T know is whether or not this is going to impact their willingness to get the gate open for us, or are we going to have to park farther away and walk?

I spoke with the life guard as I was leaving last night, and it sounded like the pool may very well be open next Wed (albeit the earlier holiday hours). There was some speculation this may have been the last session before the long holiday break. I'm sure Aly will confirm either way for us next week.

BTW, the gate was up when I got there about 5:20 or so.

Aly calls the university to have the gate open if it isn't already opened. She waits until right before pool time so that we have the best chance at finding parking spots rather than opening the gate earlier and having students take all the spots.

FYI- the gates open for anyone with a current student or staff ID, after 4pm. So, it's likely to be about full by pool time either way, gate open or closed. Don't forget that the parking meters don't have to be fed after 6pm. So if you park at a meter, just feed it till it covers you till 6p.

I'm not trying to argue but, speaking as someone with no student ID and who has to park on a campus lacking in parking, what you said isn't really true, Bob. If the gate remains closed until just before six when Aly calls the University to have the po-po open it, parking in that lot is easy and it seems paddlers can get pretty close to the western end.

If the gates happen to be open earlier, it fills up pretty solidly before six.

And if Aly doesn't call to have the gate open, then paddlers are screwed and have to park way the hell away because there aren't enough metered spots.

I hope someone will post when the next session will be. I am just getting into a kayak again for the first time in 15 years and this seems like the right place to come and start working on getting back into it. Roll practice and a little time in the boat practicing some strokes and such. I'd like to get back out on a river before too long.

I do not have my roll yet. Is there someone who can teach? If not where can I go? I live in NE AR so anywhere between Little Rock & Jonesboro would be good!

Jill if you can make it to one of ualr's pool sessions, their will likely be someone there that can help. The pool gets used the most over the winter months. Keep your eyes out for the new year and pool availability. Wednesday's are good and we get some Saturdays, but this is swim meet season so we don't get to many this time of year. I would be happy to spend some time with you if and when you make it. PM me before you come and I will make sure to be there.

Jill, the pool's available this week on Wednesday evening and Saturday afternoon. I try to post those updates as new threads at the beginning of each week. When there's a day that works for you, you can post there and be sure others will be at the pool to help!
