Many thanks to Diane Holwick for coordinating our winter roll sessions. They will be the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of January, February, and March. The dates would be 1/08/14, 1/22/14, 2/12/14, 2/26/14, 3/12/14, and 3/26/14. We will have use of three lanes of the pool from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. A representative of the club will be appointed for each session to make sure that ACC club members follow the appropriate rules. Fees are:

· Mercy members, no charge

· Roll session instructors (volunteers), no charge

· Arkansas Canoe Club members $5 per session

· Non-Mercy, Non-Arkansas Canoe Club Members, $8 per session

The location is Mercy Fitness Center at 7600 Dallas St. in Fort Smith.
Please observe all rules of the fitness center including showering before entering the pool. We will have a water hose set up at the side entrance to wash your boat off before it enters the pool as well.

Just show up ...... with a clean boat . Rinse it again outside the door , there will be a water hose . Take the float bags out before you go . They hold trapped trash & dirt .

Our first roll session will be next Wednesday (January 8th) from 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM at Mercy Fitness in Fort Smith. Is your membership current? If not, this is an excellent opportunity to PAY up! I will be submitting the member's list to Mercy early next week, so message me if you renew online or send in a check.

Make sure your boat is CLEAN before you bring it through the doors. A good vacuuming of a dry boat is the best way to clean it out ... remove the float bags please! Open boats are welcome, but they need to be free of debris as well. There will be a hose outside the door ... if it is below freezing, please be conscious of NOT icing down the sidewalk.

We hope you will bring your family and kids who are learning to paddle, but this event is not a "family swim" night. Youth should be under the supervision of an adult, and may only use the main pool. Thanks!

These roll sessions are primarily intended for paddlers who have their own gear, or who are able to borrow some from family or friends. We welcome all who would like to try out a boat, but do not count on someone else to bring gear for you to use all night unless you have made plans with them. We hope to have instructors on hand to help you out but can not guarantee their availability.

Please message me or email me at 68 rivers at g mail dot com if you have questions.

Hope to see you there!
Diane

I finally get to make it to one this season! Been out of town each other session. I'm also bringing my (almost) father-in-law to see if we can't teach him to roll. He is getting more into whitewater these days, and I've told him the importance of being able to roll. He also experienced that first hand after counting several fish on the Poudre last summer.

Do we know who the volunteers will be this week?

I'm bringing my LL Jefe to try to teach Mark in, but I know there are easier boats to roll out there. Hoping someone might bring a playboat or something they consider "easy to roll", because I don't really consider the Jefe to be.

I'm gonna go get river crud out of my boat right NOW! Excited to get back on the water!

See you tomorrow,
Chase

Is the roll class still on for today? I am here and a bit early, I know, but I'm not seeing any other boats around. Thanks...
