RiverRats Race to the Rock - Sept. 28, 2013
Kayak and Canoe Fun Race open to the public. Starting at 10AM at the RS Kerr Lock and Dam 15 boat ramp located nine miles south of Sallisaw, OK on Hwy 59 on the Arkansas River. Race ends 15 miles down the river at the historic Wilson Rock boat ramp south of Muldrow, OK. Wilson Rock boat ramp located south of Muldrow, OK via Wilson Rock Road off Hwy 64.

Is the deadline to enter extended?

The entry deadline has been extended until the 11th of October to allow getting the correct shirt size. Sorry failed to mention. Have the local fire departments challenging each other to encourage more paddlers. Great place to paddle.

First time to try organizing a race. Will get all the information out by race time. We will have a shuttle for anyone who needs a ride back to their vehicle. Hope for a fair turnout and improve for next year. Have had several who indicate they would help sponsor next years and could have some prize money. Just needed a place to start. Hope everyone can join us.

I would have come if it wasn`t the same weekend as the Phatwater Challenge in Mississippi.
I think its great you are trying to get racing started in your area. I have been putting on the Arkansas River Race here in Little Rock for about 10 years and most of the racers come from out of state. Without more local support I may not put it on next year.

The Arkansas River is a great place to paddle, it just seems Arkansas paddlers would rather do white water than paddling for fitness. Arkansas is always behind it seems

Missouri has the MR 340 a race across the state and it has over 500 paddlers, and they have races about every 2 or3 weeks,

The MO340 started 7 years ago I believe with only 5 racers. This year they had over 300 boats entered. I competed three years ago and finished in 76 hours. One of lifes greatest adventures. Thought we should take advantage of the untapped assets we have here. I trained on the 15 mile streach we will race on.Why have to travel to other places to enjoy paddling.

Anyone else planning on going? I figured it was a good excuse to get the day off of work..

At this late date fees can be paid day of race. Do need to know ahead the number paddlers and sizes needed to get correct T shirts.
Also discounts are available in local motels for overnight stays. Contact me for names and numbers.

Due to lack of attendance it became more of a leisurely float. But a great time none the less.
