Committed Volunteers Needed for River Restoration Inspection

Post by Half Ton » Wed Aug 14, 2013 8:36 pm

The Watershed Conservation Resource Center and Beaver Watershed Alliance invite you to participate in a streambank restoration maintenance activity at Brentwood along the West Fork of White River on Tuesday, August 20th.

The purpose of this event is to evaluate the condition of a river restoration, as well as to recruit and train individuals that might be interested in adopting their own river restoration sites on the West Fork, near Drake Field in Fayetteville, to maintain over the next few years.

This activity will include monitoring the health of newly planted native plant stands and restoration structures at the Brentwood Restoration site along the West Fork of the White River, as well as creating a community of dedicated stewards of our local natural resources in a beautiful setting.

Food and beverages will be provided. Interested participants can either meet at the WCRC office at 380 West Rock Street in Fayetteville at 4:20 pm to carpool/caravan, or meet out at the Brentwood Community Building (approximately 1.1 Miles South of the Rest Stop on Hwy 71 on west side of hwy) at 5 pm. Please reply to this email, or call 479-274-8903 to let me know that you can make it!

A great opportunity to be involved with a positive watershed stewardship activity, and to learn more about river restorations, fluvial geomorphology of rivers, and to network with some of the best in the Nation at River Restoration.

This is an introductory session and no long-term commitment is needed to participate, however the intent of the program is to cultivate dedicated and stewardship teams that can conduct follow up river restoration maintenance inspections over a period of years.
"The challenge goes on. There are other lands and rivers, other wilderness areas, to save and to share with all. I challenge you to step forward to protect and care for the wild places you love best"

- Neil Compton
