Eleven Point Greer to Riverton on August 24-25th
Eleven Point Greer to Riverton on August 24-25th
Getting together an overnight trip. Launch at Greer Springs access Saturday morning, August 24 between 10-11am. Take out at Riverton Sunday afternoon. Length is right at 20-miles. We'll figure out shuttle options as things come together. For those not wanting to spend the night on the river you can take out at Whitten which is about halfway. BYOG (bring your own grub). I'll probably go up Friday night and camp at Richard's Canoe campground ($3 per person) just uphill from Greer launch.
We'll be hooking up with a group from Ozark Mountain Paddlers.

Hey Paul- I'd like to try to get in on this, sounds like just what we had talked about. I can't make it down this weekend but sounds like I'll see you for SWR5 on August 10. Thanks -M-

Great Randy, I hope you can make it! I suspect it will be hot - tents fans will help.

How is camping at Richard's? I have never stayed there.
Re: Eleven Point Greer to Riverton on August 24-25th
Richard's is not scenic (compared to Greer Crossing) and rather primitive. They do have a shower house that could possibly do double duty as a fish cleaning station. On the plus side, the Richards family is extremely nice and takes pride in helping their customers. It's close to the launch and is a secure location to leave vehicles if you're using them to shuttle your boat ($20) or your vehicle ($40). The camping area is to the right of the storefront up a gentle oak-covered hillside. Picnic tables and fire rings are at each campsite which you can drive right up to.
I'll post more on shuttle possibilities and overall trip logistics tomorrow.

what time are you arriving at Richard's?
what are the shuttle plans?
I'm plannin on going. I may even camp at Richard's fri night too since the skeeters probly won't be as bad up there as they will at Greer Crossing.
what say?

OK everybody, here’s the plan –
Meet at Richards’ Canoe at 9am Saturday morning, August 24th. For those of you arriving Friday night and camping you want to be packed and ready to roll at 9am. Group campsites are to the right of and behind canoe trailers. Rate is $3 per person. We’ll settle up on Saturday morning. See below for info on Richards’.
Launch shuttle: drive 5-minutes to Greer Crossing and unload, leave someone to guard the gear, and then return all personal vehicles to Richards’. They will drive us back to Greer.
Return shuttle options: meet Richards’ at Riverton take-out at pre-arranged time for boat transport and ride back to their location ($20 per boat); or for more flexibility on take-out time have Richards’ shuttle a couple vehicles ($40 per) to Riverton on Sunday in advance of our anticipated take-out. We can then go fetch vehicles at Richards’.
The above approach provides max security for our vehicles and has worked well for me previously but we have flexibility and can discuss our options Friday night or Saturday morning.
The OMP group will camp at Richards’ Friday night. I plan to head out from Little Rock early Friday evening.
We’ll get on the river by 10am and take our time paddling down to possible camps at Horseshoe bend, Barn Hollow or White’s Creek. These are USFS float-in camps. There’ll be plenty of time for fishing, swimming and exploring. Sunday launch time by group consensus. Take out at Riverton Sunday afternoon. Trip is self-support.
For those not wishing to river camp you can take out at Whitten (just below aforementioned float camps), overnight in splendid luxury, then return to Whitten to rejoin the group. Shuttle can be arranged with Richards'.
River levels are normal and weather is looking good:
Friday mostly sunny 91/69
Saturday mostly sunny 89/68
Sunday mostly sunny 89
Greer gauge: http://nwis.waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/ ... o=07071000
Bardley gauge (near Riverton): http://nwis.waterdata.usgs.gov/mo/nwis/ ... o=07071500
Fishing: This first section of the trip is a wild trout management area. Rainbow and Brown trout reproduce naturally in this stretch of water. Since stocked trout start at 10 inches, anything smaller you catch is sure to be one of Missouri's few wild trout. Below Turner Mill, special regulations end, and statewide trout regulations (no size limit and daily five-fish creel limit) apply. Walleye and Smallmouth are also abundant. Daily license and trout stamps are available online at http://mdc.mo.gov/
Richards’ Canoe: http://richardscanoerental.com/
From Little Rock take US Highway 67/167 North/East to Bald Knob, then US Highway 167 North to Hardy, then US Highway 63 North to Thayer, Missouri, then SH 19 North through Alton to Richards' Canoe Rental on left, 187-miles or 3.5-hours.
Looking forward to meeting new folks and enjoying this beautiful river.

Re: Eleven Point Greer to Riverton on August 24-25th
see ya'll friday. I'll be at Richard's by 3 or 4.
The Eleven Point River is a treat. Hope more Arkansas folks come up and join this trip. Temps will be 5 to 10 degrees cooler than at home and it's only 40 minutes or so further than the Spring River.
