Request for kayaks and paddles from UALR for Boy Scouts

Post by we66erno1 » Tue Jun 25, 2013 7:55 pm

Some Boy Scouts are in need of 2-3 kayaks, paddles, and PFD's. They will be trying gain merit badges on Sunday at a lake. Tom, the aquatics director for UALR(same guy that let's us use the pool for rolling practice) inquired if we could loan them gear.

I've offered my boat and offered to attend to help anyway I can.

I hope there are others for the central chapter that will help loan gear or time. Anytime Tom asks for our help, we should go above and beyond what he requests. Especially since we're probably the only chapter that get to use a facility for free.

Feel free to email me we66erno1@gmail.com or call me at 501-590-765zero if you can help.

I don't kayak, so I can't help with boats or paddles, but I can provide at least one (and maybe three depending on what sizes you need) kayak suitable PFD(s) if that would help. You know where to find me...........
You come too.

Heeeeellllllp!

I talked briefly with Doug last night, and this need has not yet been filled. I'm out of state, the best I can do is maybe get Debbie to deliver boats and a PFD or two from Conway, but will still need paddles.

We really need to come through as a club on this one, we have had years of free pool access for roll sessions with very little asked in return! Please contact Doug at the above number if you are in the LR area and might be able to help!

I may be able to help with this if time will permit. I tried the above number. Is there any other contact information?

Get ahold of Tom at UALR? He should be listed somewhere.

With luck, I was still around yesterday afternoon when Richard Newland called via Toms reference. I was ready to walk out the door. I hooked him up with a couple of kayaks. All is well!

Bob, BIG THANKS!!! (I'll get more details the next time I see you.)

To others who offered help or advice, much appreciated! Steve Gabbard and I were working behind the scenes to try to pull this together, but with no luck on our end. Calls to the Aquatic Center netted only an answering machine with full voicemail. An e-mail to Tom went unanswered, not surprising for one sent on a Saturday of a holiday weekend.

I'll follow up with Tom later to make sure he has multiple ACC contacts, including at least one of our most recently elected officers so he has more than one point of contact to cover those times when the "regular" pool contact is out of town.

I'm glad Bob was in the right place at the right time to help out.
