Gilbert to Rush - We Did It!

Last weekend we finally did the Gilbert to Rush Run. The river was down a little more than we had wanted BUT... did it any way.
Put in at 10:45 & took out at 9:05. If the river had been up a bit more we could have done a little better.
It was a good paddle, saw bald eagle, beaver, deer & of course lots of birds.
Another thing we saw that I had not counted on. This was the FIRST and I mean FIRST time I had been down the river on a Saturday between Memorial Day & Labor Day. Just where did all the drunks come from??
I partied in my younger years but nothing like that.... and never on the water... but times are different now.
The trip was fun and I would do it again but only if the river is up a bit more....

The times have changed. The Buffalo has become more like the Spring on the weekends.

We did Baker Ford to Gilbert Saturday. There were plenty of people enjoying the river, and a few of them were quite intoxicated, but it was nothing like the Spring. Hopefully it doesn't reach that point, but sadly the potential is there. There were two rangers at the takeout checking for sobriety, and based on what I saw there was at least one young man who didn't go home that night. I imagine that will turn out to be the most expensive float trip he's ever taken.

Weekend floats are gonna be crowded with liquered up idiots. I think they are uniquitous. Can i use that big word on a Monday? We encountered a small herd of them at Tyler Bend but luckily got away from them.

Uniquitous That would be a cross between, maybe--given this context, iniquitous and ubiquitous? Not sure iniquitous is a proper form of iniquity, but the combination seems to fit crowds of drunks . . .

We had some Remmel to Rockport Saturday as well. I suppose it takes all types but someone brought a boom box along with his large beer cooler. I was hoping a big gar would bite him in the ____. Well you know!

So given the circumstances might one posit that it was a den of uniquity?

My right index finger has a mind of its own sometimes and rebels by moving to the right. UBIQUITOUS. Not iniquity or any other derivation of similar words. It was Monday!

Left index finger, that is. Can't type, can't tell left from right. No more big words.

Tim,
Just do what I do and call it acute momentary selective dyslexia.

Miss Ellie, sorry we highjacked your thread. Props to you for a trip well-done. I'm guessing at that pace you did not fish?

No we did not fish BUT could have should have. They were a jumpin' & they were ripe for the pickin'.
I don't mind the hijack on the post... it was so much fun BUT again a little more water & it would have been perfect.
Doing my rain dance now!
