Has anyone been on the river since the flood? I was thinking about floating Drag over this weekend. Is the gate open to get to the put in? Any hazards I should know about? Thanks in advance for info.

I haven't floated it yet this year but several of us will probably do so on Saturday, we may see you on the river.
I'll bet the gate is open, haven't heard of any hazards thus far.

I just checked with Clay, who paddled it today & there is a new strainer below the big house that is easy to see & avoid.

Did it today. Gate is open and road is good except for takeout. I wouldn't venture down the take out part in a car for sure, but u can carry about 75 yards and be fine. No strainers except the one around Wes mentioned. I actually can't remember if it was before it after big house now but it's easy to see and avoidable. It's inline with the current and can be paddled left. You can also paddle downstream in a pool and take a cheat route but its shallow. It's easy to drag over a gravel bar too. Good place for lunch. Other than that, the level is great. Plenty of small surf waves and no sticky holes. At Big House, I would stay left. If you go right of the big rock, there are 2 nice pin rocks about 2" under the surface. It's hidden by a wave, but if you drop into it, I think the bow would strike it dead center.

We have all been hoping the county judge would have the road down to the take-out re-graded a bit in the last couple of years, obviously this hasn't happened. Is the road just too rutted-out for low clearance vehicles, or too muddy and slick? It was rough enough last year that we also quit leaving cars down there and just took trucks in to pick everyone up. Thanks

There are a bunch of USFS trucks down there working on something and its sort of rutted up. The main problem is that since the water got high, the road is mostly sandy silt the last 100 yards. I was in my 4wd Tacoma but did not need to use 4wd. However, if I was in a car I would be worried about getting stuck in the sand and not having any help. The rest of the road and the put in area is just fine. I parked at the put in and just jogged the half mile or so back

You just answered my question about whether I would need 4x4 to access the Dragover takeout. Sounds like a 4x4 SUV with good ground clearance and new AT tires shouldn't have any problems. Thanks.

Be careful on the gravel road at dragover. The USFS and AAS are having their summer trainging program on a twenty acre site down near the take out and at times there is traffic and large trucks and vans on the narrow road.The road to the takeout has new gravel and giant drainage terraces like giant speed bumps. Parking at the takeout is very limited, but they're not using the put-in. Saturday (june 15) the site is open to the public and u might find someone to show u around the dig.
Lots of ticks, chiggers, and poison ivy, (but the mosquitos weren't bad) last week, so go prepared. mitch
