Caddo Saturday

Post by Deuce » Thu May 16, 2013 2:21 pm

Chris Crawford and I plan to hit the Caddo while we still can. We're thinking Glenwood to Amity or Amity to Amity and will be doing some fishing along the way. In addition to us there are several maybes. Stay tuned for the final deets.

Hey Luke,

Finished a Glenwood to Runyan Bridge (upper end of lake) trip on Tuesday. Water was low but enough to avoid dragging in all but a couple of places. Fishing was decent, too. I hadn't done the Glenwood to Amity stretch in over a decade. Lots more development along the first half of that stretch but still a nice float for fishing and general enjoyment of being on the river. We saw no other canoes until one tandem below second Amity bridge. They appeared to have put in from a camp about a mile below the bridge on river left.

This little rain has bumped the level a bit, so should hold through the weekend, I'd guess. Y'all enjoy.

I was pondering taking a couple of friends out to the Caddo on Saturday too. I won't know until tonight.

If you all are thinking about the Glenwood to Amity section, I think I'd like to join you. What time? If you are doing this section, I'd recommend the ARG&F ramp in Glenwood rather than the bridge for a put-in.

Best Regards
Jim

I'm in need of a day with Nature and I've never been on the river below Glenwood. Would like to check it out. Not 100% sure I'll get down there, though, and I don't have internet at home. So, IF I go, I'm going to plan to be at the little public access/picnic place by the cemetary at 11:00.

I'll let Luke and Chris share their plans for tomorrow but myself and two ladies will be floating (and not fishing) Amity to Amity tomorrow.

The plan is to meet at the Hwy 182 put in at 11am and then run shuttle to the take out at Hwy 84. If you'd like to join us, we'd like to have you along for this leisurely outing. NUMBER DELETED is my number... we're leaving Benton between 9-930 tomorrow morning.

See here for additional info about the float: http://class2arkansas.com/caddo-river-2/

Edited to remove my phone number.

OK. Let's meet at the AGFC put in behind the cemetery no later than 11:00 a.m. If you can be a little early so we can set up shuttle.

So where is everyone exactly meeting in the morning. I know how to get to Glenwood, & know where the hwy 70 bridge is, but where is the launch?

If you are coming into Glenwood from Hot Springs a lttle ways before you get to the bridge maybe 1/2 mile or so there will be a sign for an AGFC landing on your left just before the cemetery. Turn left there and continue on to the landing. If you can findthe cemetery on 70 on the HS side of the river you can find the put in.

Today was a nice day on the Caddo! I think the ACC was well represented with several of us on the Glenwood to Amity float, and several more on the Amity to Amity section.
The day though was a very tragic and tough one for me. As I was traveling on Hwy 70 through the western parts of Hot Springs, on the way to the river this morning, I witnessed a fatal motorcycle/car crash, it was surreal, tragic, and needless. Along with a couple of unknown ladies who helped me, we tried to assist the victim as best as possible, but to little avail. I just want to thank my river partners today for being understanding that I wasn't at my best, and helping me find a diversion. At the end of the day, I can only think how precious and tenuous life can be, whether tragedy comes as mishap on the river or the highway.

Jim, I'm so sorry you had to experience that. Life is indeed a precious gift and none of knows from day to day..... However, FWIW you were the same Jim I always enjoy floating with. Thanks for another great day on the water.
