Sunday 5/12 Gilbert to Rush

Post by MissEllie » Sat May 11, 2013 9:40 am

The hubby & I want to do Gilbert to Rush tomorrow (Sunday 5/12). Right now the flows are runnable & should still be good tomorrow.

If you are interested in splitting or doing our own shuttle give me a call or text. We have a truck that can carry 4 kayaks easy or can bring our trailer & can transport a total of 8.

Not really.... with the flow & a little paddle here & there you can cover it.... besides I would rather paddle than be a grownup and do all the stuff around the house that needs to be done.

The river distance is 30.2 miles, if we assume the NPS map has the mileages correct. The same NPS map advises that at normal levels, the average time is 2 miles per hour. So for that trip you either need to plan on a 15 hour day, or do considerably better than the "average" mph.

Type of boat will make a huge difference, anyone in a shorter WW boat would be unlikely to enjoy this trip and would likely be holding back the rest of the group. It would be important to maintain a steady pace and not make too many stops, just not much "smell the roses" time (or time to pick up trash, one of my favorite pass-times).

But if you want to get a little exercise instead of just relax, or maybe you enjoy watching the scenery go by the same way I fixate on the glassy water flowing past me while on a surfing wave, then more power to you; you should enjoy the Buffalo in whatever way maximizes your enjoyment!

(We do of course want a trip report, including starting and finishing times.) ;)
Trash: Get a little every time you go!

The shuttle fee was to much with no one to share with. We will try again this weekend.

We have not done this section but have done Woolum to Gilbert several times which is about 10 miles less. Our "fastest" time was 4 1/2 hours - not so fast 5 - 5 1/2 hours.

We do not paddle that hard... stop & do a few happy snaps with the camera... We love our time on the river & can think of no better way to spend the day. We always arrive happy & ready for a good meal - with a feeling of "river peace".

If anyone is willing to share a shuttle or do our own shuttle please let us know.

See you on the river!
