West Fork Cleanup May 25th - Call for Volunteers

Post by Half Ton » Mon Apr 29, 2013 2:46 pm

The 8th Annual West Fork Watershed Clean-up will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 25th at Riverside Park in West Fork, AR. The park is located off Hwy. 170 in downtown West Fork. Volunteers are needed. Call (479) 444-1755.

Volunteers will be served lunch at 11 a.m. and be eligible for door prize drawings and awards. Help us pick up trash on the river and keep the West Fork Watershed and Beaver Lake Watershed clean. After all, Beaver Lake is the drinking water for more than 300,000 people in Northwest Arkansas! Check back here soon for a flyer on this event!

We could still use a committed cleanup crew leader or two. It's a pretty easy gig, just contact me if you so desire to help lead a cleanup crew.

Stephen and I carried out a mesh bag that was packed full (Brentwood to West Fork) last Sat. We did not pick up the three tires we saw. Those hillbillies make a lot of trash.

Thanks for the advance cleanup and scouting report, Jim & Stephen et al. :thumbup:

I had a report from another boater and local river steward that from Dye Creek on down to Tilly Willy was in bad shape with the river trash :wht:

We could use some help on those stretches if anyone has the time, and the water is still there.

Here is a cool video promo that Trey Marley made for our cleanup :thumbup: Check it out! (Only 30 seconds long) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuvhYOEopBs" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

We stuffed another mesh bag with Brentwood to West Fork trash, today. There are still 2-3 tires and some car fenders. We picked up nearly everything that we saw.

We've still got some water to float a few sections of the west fork tomorrow, and we can help set shuttle if you need or would like.

Jim Binz, Bill, and Stefen had the river cleaned pretty good from Brentwood to Riverside, but KRU said the high water washed a little more trash into these sections the other day.

Reports are that Riverside to Tilly Willy has quite a lot.

Thankfully, Paddledog and crew got Winslow to Brentwood while the water was up, as it looks like this might be the only completely non-floatable stretch tomorrow.

Thanks again guys for the reports and pre-cleaning!!!
