Lake Maumelle Spillway
Anyone ever run the section below the spillway? Surely someone has! It's flowing really well right now and has a few gnarly looking holes and waves in it. The Ouachita Trail runs right next to the long rapid so it's easy access to run some laps on it. The videos I took are of the side that doesn't have much water, but you can kinda see the far side where all the water is.

Re: Lake Maumelle Spillway
Isn't there a sign posted there that says something about boating, swimming, surfing, etc not being allowed in the spillway?

Ran it back in the 80's. Surfed across to river right and carried up to the top to run the deeper right side. Took out at the bridge. Lake Maumelle warden told us not to do it again.

Heck, I think the "no surfboards" sign was old a decade ago, it probably just fell down or got covered by vines. If the Warden retired maybe the rule has been forgotten...

Re: Lake Maumelle Spillway
Haha maybe so. Everyone I've talked to just says the rules for the lake, never below the spillway. I always see people in fishing boats at the bridge below the spillway, and this last week there were random kids swimming in the left side of the spillway. I'll just call CAW and see what they say. I don't plan on running the actual spillway, just below it. Who's going with? Tomorrow?

I wouldn't ask, I would just go. If you don't ask, they can't say no, and if they're aren't any signs, then can't say you were warned.

Cowper- The stuff is already packed in case there is an afternoon run up in the Ben Hur area!
Twindad- The thought has crossed my mind. We will see, but I'm not going alone, not that good of a boater.

We ran it with water covering all the shale bedrock, like Rockport at summer normal flow. It looks like more fun than it is. Very fast water with no maneuvering - the only penalty being the man-made "river" bed is a cheese-grater.
