OT: Dutch Ovens

So we discovered a fantastic dutch oven that hasn't been outside an outdoor storage building since Eisenhower inked the order to create the Interstate Highway system. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to restore this puppy?

I revamped a rusted, crusty Griswold skillet last spring. I used a steel brush on my drill then oven treated it with bacon grease. But some people say give them a lye bath and others say put them in a self cleaning oven and bake them clean, in either case you have to reseason them. My skillet turned out perfect with a pure black non-stick surface, but I can't swear to the other two methods. Congratulations on the find! :thumbup:

Do some search on the message board as we discussed this topic of DO rehab in great detail. Last year I think when Ryan Center acquired a Griswold that was picked up in a garage sale for a few bucks.

but outside of kids & grandkids one of the highlights of my life was a beauty cold day on the Buffalo followed by Dutch oven upside down pineapple cake & cherry cobbler by Dave Reid & Bob Stout

never had better

Butch, you bring a couple beers and I got that cobbler covered. Lets meet on a gravel bar your choice.

I'm not naming names or times or places or anything, but it's possible that maybe, just maybe, a cobbler or two or some other delectable DO delight (see what I did there? :ROFL:) might materialize at a certain club sanctioned event happening in the near future. :whistle:

Put some sea salt in it... cut the end off of a potato,,, and scrub the salt with the potato while rinsing with water. Re-Season...

OR

just throw it in the campfire until its red hot. then let it cool and season with grease.
