Tandem Canoe on the Cossatot

Post by 71dartswinger » Thu Apr 04, 2013 12:05 pm

Anybody run a tandem canoe down the Cossatot? What about the falls? All I can find are videos and pictures of kayaks.

Been done but not common these days. Most of those photos and clips were pre-digital so not as likely to show up on Youtube.

Some of the, "paddlers of long experience" may pipe in eventually with more details.

I solo'd my buffalo tandem canoe from Ed banks to below the Esses. And then from the Sand bar to the falls. Wasn't ready to take a non-outfitted canoe through the Falls at the time. At the level it will be at this weekend, it'll be pretty fluffy. But you'll still have to watch out for pin rocks.

Are you going to solo or OC2?

My buddies and I, growing up in DeQueen in the late 60's, used to. Just remember wrecking a lot and wondering how we survived the machine.

I'd do it! I love to run in the outrage, let me know if you ever need a tandem partner.

Two good single bladers in the right boat can be very graceful through the falls. Heck, even Richland has been run in tandems.

Is that limited to a tandem canoe or does it apply to inflatables as well? We were at least graceful if not awesome.

Canoes only. Rafts are another matter. :myday"

I imagine Tim and I could run tandem down the Tot or Richland in a canoe :canoe:

It would be both graceful and awesome!

Among others, I have seen Marcell and Buttload run the 'Tot in a tandem boat: it was not graceful or awesome. It was inelegant and LOUD.

Here we are running the Cossatot in 1993, in a Mad River Duck Hunter canoe:
