Hog Farm on the Buffalo article

Post by summerbee » Thu Mar 14, 2013 2:31 pm

For those of you interested, there is an article in today's Arkansas Democrat Gazette reporting on the hog farm situation. Section B, page 1.

Thanks, summerbee. KY3 in Springfield, MO also ran a pretty good newsreel on it yesterday. It can be found on their website.

Blanchard Springs shut down swimming because of feral pigs last summer. The Hog CAFO has the potential of doing the same thing to the Buffalo. This should be a RED ALERT item for the ACC, ACA, NPS, Canoe&Kayak, Paddlingnet, Backpacker and any other outdoor recreation organization.
If you have a way of contacting any of these, it needs to be done
NOW

This could be the Buffalo!

Thank you Richard for placing the proper urgency on this matter, this is the issue of our time. Call and write everyone you can. Tourist are already saying that they have heard about the hog farm and are not coming back. Dumbest idea in the history of the Buffalo, and will be such a small benefit to Newton Co.. The science behind these farms is flawed, and these operations have failed miserably before and destroyed rivers. Are we going to just sit back and watch this happen after all the sacrifice by local folks who were forced to give up their lands for the creation of the Buffalo National River? NO ONE believes that this will not affect the river, the process for informing the public and other affected gov. agencies has been intentionally circumvented, and the stink from this horrible idea has begun way before one hog has arrived.
