Taking a friend out for some gentle whitewater in rec kayaks this Sat. Need shuttle buddies to set shuttle from Glenwood around noon. Weather forecast looks great and we'll go if levels are anything between "hike the riverbed" and "wow, that must have been somebody's cabin".

Which section do you plan to float?

Lee,

The weather sure looks like it will be nice on Saturday at this point. With no rain until then, I predict the Caddo will be in the 5.50 ft. range. That's low, but doable for the Narrows to Glenwood (7.5 miles), and better on the Glenwood G&F access to Hwy 182 Amity access (9 miles).

Best Regards
Jim

I plan to put in at Norman or Narrows, probably the latter as my partner isn't used to being in the boat for long periods. Thanks for the info, Jim. I hope we can find shuttle buddies, but if not, we'll hire a local.

Lee,

I'm thinking that I will try and meet you guys there on Saturday. I haven't been in my kayak in several months, and I'm getting 'plum moldy'. Are you set on noon, or would 11am at the Glenwood bridge be OK? I think the Narrows to Glenwood would be a good plan.

Best Regards
Jim

The wife and I would like to tag along. This will be our first trip on the Caddo so we don't know exactly how to get there. Where exactly is the bridge? Also, how hard of a float is this section? I'm familiar with the Ouachita, Little Mo, and Buffalo, any comparison to these? (Sorry for all the questions. We are still pretty new to the game.) Also for reference if needed tomorrow phone is five oh one-six oh five-seven one one four.

Sounds great! I am looking forward to it as well!

Luke,

Would be great if y'all join us! Highway 70 bridge, west end, take the left at the end of the bridge, then an immediate left that will put you in the access-campground. I'll be in a red GMC pickup.
This section is easy class one. Great for novices.

Well, I had just a great day on the Caddo today! The first trip of the year always makes me and my back feel our motality a little more each year, but it was such a nice weather, and water day! Thanks Lee for suggesting the trip, and friend Phil for coming along! I was so pleased to meet Lee's friend Kim, and also Luke&Holly (Teaches with Fire) You all made the day such a delight! With Spring Break going on, we all were able to view different paddling situations folks find themselves in, and offer support where we could.
I think we all are looking forward to the next trip after the next shot of rain brings the river up a tad, and floating together again. Thanks again for such a pleasant day!

Best Regards
Jim

Ditto all of the above. Jim, Kim really appreciated your instruction and is rarin' to go again. We encountered just the right kinds of situations to refresh my memory on some basic skills to teach her and the weather and water conditions were very forgiving and didn't scare anyone off . . . except, maybe, that poor kid whose incompetent stern man (his dad) screamed at him all day (not with our party). And, boy, did we hit it on the right day!

Good meeting Phil, Holly, and Luke. Good little paddle party and we'll see y'all again.

Hey Lee, it was indeed a real fun day! I'm glad Kim enjoyed it so much, she was all smiles all day, and has such a pleasant personality and good attitude! When it warms up, and we can make another trip there, I'll look forward to it.

I know you will be considering buying some different boats and gear in the future, so you may like to try various ones first. You can see from this trip how well the Remix'es Luke and Holly have handled.I would also like to put a plug in for the Dagger Approach, they are build along similar lines, but a slightly lighter boat. I have a matched pair of 10' Approaches, I really like, and keep for spares, I would only be too happy to let you paddle them on the next trip if you would care to. Take a look at them online to get a better idea of what they look like and how they're set up.

Best Regards
Jim
