June 15, 2013 Rockport will play host to a river run with a http://www.tragiklywhite.com concert & BBQ plus they kick in a T-shirt to take with ya. There is an entry fee however to help support the FIRST STEP of Arkansas (an organization to help children and adults with developmental disabilities)

How exciting. I've been wanting to bring our hiking group down to the Ouachita this summer and this provides more reasons and a worthwhile cause to come.
I assume, with enough advance notice, we could reserve group sites for camping that night at a nearby camping spot. We have 81 signed up for a Tyler Bend outing in April. We'll have less for this, I'm sure, due to distance. If anyone can help with suggestions, that would be wonderful.

No kidding! This thing has gotten crazy. We started charging a membership fee and they still keep coming. We're capping at 50 since a bunch will drop out, but that usually means we have to do another one. . .And to think I used to solo everything.

Might check with Lake Catherine State Park.

Might also check with the city of Malvern on trying to get the Porterfield property. I have no idea what is involved but it's a nice camp area for larger groups.

Curtis, about Porterfields. Just call Malvern's city hall, and ask about Porterfields. Use requires a deposit which you get back if the property is clean. You can get a Portojohn for $85, I think out of Hot Springs. Folks are easy to work with, call now to get on the calendar.

Yeah, I didn't even think about Porterfield's. That would be ideal for you guys.

I'm planning on making it down for this. Curtis if your going to reserve Porterfield's for the NWA hiking group I wouldn't mind camping with ya.

I've never been, but those that have in the past is there usually a shuttle back up to the Dam to pick up your car parked there? Thanks

We're not ignoring you, I think it is just that none of the regular Message Board users know the answer. The RRR is not an ACC event, so we don't know the answer. I would contact the organizers at one of the links given in the first post.

Also, watch this board - it is a rare summer weekend that at least some ACC folks aren't enjoying the river, and finding a ride back to the top should not be too hard. Just look for someone posting a downriver invite the week before, or maybe even the day before, June 15.

my wife works for Sykes, which is a major sponsor of this event. I will be there all weekend and plan to paddle at least Saturday. I would be glad to shuttle you paddlecouple. my number is (501) 920-4796. this is a great event for first step. I would love to see more of the school there.

Never been to Rockport but heard of it for years. I'll be there.
