Looking to buy a kayak...Need advice

Hi,

I have rented kayaks numerous times and am looking to buy, but am still very new and uninformed. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me. I am looking to buy something used as I am not quite ready for the financial commitment of a brand new boat.

I want a boat that I can paddle around on a lake, but that I can also take on the Buffalo and similar rivers. Ideally it would have a small bit of storage space.

If anyone has a boat that fits that description or any recommendations I would appreciate it. Thanks very much.

I am 5'8'' about 165lbs.

Look for a used LL XP9 or 10

I have never paddled a LL XP but have heard many good reviews on them and I will most likely be purchasing one sometime in the future for rec paddling. Another option you might consider is a dagger axis 10.5. i paddled one for about 4 years for the same reasons that you are looking for and I loved it.

My wife, Marlo, has had the XP-10 Remix for several years now, and I also agree with all of it's merits!. The XP's are made very strong, and with a very good design, to do well in many settings. I can only add that I also really like the Dagger 'Approach' as far as a similar hull design for various uses, strength, and capacity, but with a slightly lighter weight, and cost. The Approach has a round rear hatch cover, and maybe not as convenient as the oval hatch on the Liquid Logic boats, but wanted to offer that suggestion while you were previewing various boats.

Best Regards

Disclaimer: THREAD JACK

I'm headed to the Pack Rat Saturday morning for their demo day. Looking for a river runner/creeker, and plan on sitting in their LL remix, and stomper, as well as a Dagger Mamba to get a feel for the outfittings and see which characteristics of each I prefer.

Any folks experienced with these models that could suggest a couple of outfitting points I should pay close attention to?

Thanks,
Chase
