GoPro pole mount

Have any of you made a pole mount for the rear of your boat? I've seen several on the web that mount to the rear grab loop and extend up to about head high so as to get a unique "chase view". Jackson makes one for $100, but I'm pretty sure I can make one cheaper. I've seen some nice ones out of aluminum. Those might be fine for pros like Rush Sturges that never roll, but I'm thinking PVC would be safer for boaters like me who might roll or occasionally hit a strainer! My thinking is that the plastic would just break free and lessen the chance of a pin. The camera could be tethered to the grab loop. The problem I'm having is finding a good way to mount the pole to the grab loops.

Be careful of PVC in cold conditions.
If broken, it will shear into sharp pieces.
Aluminium seems better.
I would use Velcro with light cord to support.

Good thinking. Actually after reading more on it, I'm not sure I'm ready to outweigh the risk just for a good shot. It may be better to leave that to the pros.

whatever you use... cut it fully across at the bottom (near boat) and duct tape it back together. that will give you a point of failure if you flip in a shallow spot. run some shock cord up through pipe to act as a tether.
