Helton's Piney Access Notice

On Sunday Tommy Young and I launched two rafts at Helton's. We left our money in the can on the porch. We were surprised at the "No Trespassing" sign by the gate leading down to the field, but we went ahead down to the launch. The gate was not closed. When we got to the creek, we saw another truck already there. I assume they were paddlers that launched ahead of us. The problem was that they hadn't paid the launch fee because the was no money in the can when I first opened it. Maybe they weren't boating or didn't know about paying. My point is that this river access is at a stage that could change easily since Mrs. Helton's death. We need to abide by the rules and hope that they keep this put in open for us. This includes paying your boat fee every time. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe the fee is $3.00 for canoes and kayaks and $4.00 for each raft. Please spread the word and help to keep the new owners happy.

Pretty sure that the Moore's paid Ms. Helton (at the time) for all their customers to avoid that issue. Not sure what their agreement was.

Just pay the damn fee and if you suspect that someone is skipping it, let them know politely what is at stake here.

How hard is it to do the right thing? Really.

BTW, Walter, was it cold?

Yes Roger it was cold. So cold that I almost had to cut off some frozen straps after the shuttle. They were wet and frozen to the point that they wouldn't come loose. Actually it was a beautiful day on the creek otherwise. We didn't see anyone else.

I"ll go one step further. If I KNOW someone skipped the fee, I'll throw extra money in the can rather than risk loss of this access. If I can't talk to the offenders face to face, an appropriate (and polite) note will be left on their vehicle, and their license number will be recorded for future reference. (Repeat offenders could be charged with tresspassing or something; I'm sure we'll collectively find a way to encourage future compliance.)

AMEN, Brother Roger! Just Do The Right Thing!

Walter, we saw y'all at the take out. Wished I had stopped to talk with y'all! Glad you got to make the run. We didn't realize Mrs Helton had passed. It was definitely a cold but beautiful day on Sunday.
