Job Opportunity Rowing Boats for US Fish and Wildlife

Post by gma06001- » Fri Jan 04, 2013 12:48 pm

I received this email from my old supervisor in Vernal, UT about next summers jobs. I worked there for two years and it was one of the best experiences of my life. We work Desolation Canyon, Yampa Canyon, Canyon of Lodore, and Split Mountain Canyon in Utah and Colorado. Work trips are 2-8 days camping on the river and you are pretty much gone all week most weeks on river trips. Lots of overtime too. They do drug test the boat runners. If you have less experience rowing boats you can get hired on as a biological science technician. The job is working with endangered fish species on the Upper Colorado River Basin.

"Hi, all,

The FWS offices in Vernal and Grand Junction are recruiting people for seasonal work operating boats for fish work. In particular, we are looking for folks with solid whitewater rafting skills who can operate heavy oar rafts. This job is not the same as our seasonal fish tech job, so it focuses on boat operation, although all staff will eventually be proficient on the fish end of things. The link for the announcement is below. The announcement will be open for 2 weeks, starting today.

If you know any boaters looking to have a long season, are maybe a little burned out on taking care of guests, or want to see what’s been living under their boat all these years, please pass this along. There may also be an opportunity for guides looking for early season work before they go to their guiding job for the summer. We really need people in April and May.

I hope the winter is treating you well.

Just in case anyone is looking! If you're interested in the canyons or work I have tons of pictures I could share.
