Gulpha Gauge range?

Post by Lupe » Fri Jan 04, 2013 11:39 am

Hi folks,

I wonder if anyone has sussed out yet the minimum flow for that short Gulpha run? Or maybe I can figure it out based on the recent history and when folks had paddled it:

I haven't gotten to do this yet, and a short run tomorrow would be nice. If Gulpha is too low will probably do Amity to Amity again on the Caddo.

Thanks for any insight you Gulpha veterans can provide!

Cheers

I think a lot of people, including myself, have been trying to figure this out lately. Unfortunately, in the roughly 15 times I've run Gulpha in the past 2 years the guage has not represented actual flow very well or very consistently at least. This is another problem that people have been pondering, and seems to be caused by the gauge being on the Middle Branch Gulpha which covers a small portion of the watershed feeding Gulpha Creek where the run from Ridgeway Rd to Malvern Ave is. Personally, I always look for about 4.2 on the gauge before I start heading that way, but this last Tuesday the gauge read over 4.3 on our runs and it was honestly the lowest I've ever run it. The 4.2 number was advised to me by some paddlers in Hot Springs that have been around for a while. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info. It's already down to 4.1 so we'll wait for some more precip before we consider this one. I hope I can catch it in the next round or two, as a new (relatively) nearby run.

Cheers
