Bayou DeView, Saturday, 1-5-2013

Debbie and several others will be doing something on Bayou DeView tomorrow. Here's what I know about the trip:

Time: 11 AM (intentional later starts during duck season avoid potential conflicts, hunting stops at noon)
Place: Hickson Lake in the Dagmar WIldlife Management area (a few miles West of Brinkley)
N34.89033 W91.29830
Water levels: Optimal. The snow did the trick. Unlikely there will be even one required log or beaver dam portage
Weather: HIgh 40's, with a slight chance of rain. Its Arkansas; be prepared.

Additional tips:
1) If coming from the West, get off the freeway no later than exit 193, Hazen exit. Freeway construction has created legendary traffic problems between Brinkley and Hazen, you can run into multi-hour stoppages either westbound or eastbound. Or you might just sail through. Do you feel lucky, Punk?
2) If this is your first time joining us, and you don't like driving unfamiliar dirt roads in Wildlife Management areas, you can also meet us at about 10:15 at the T-ricks gas station at Exit 193. We usually make a pit stop there on our way to Dagmar.

Watch this board for last minute updates, and/or text me (Central arkansas area code, four72-9zero38) or Debbie. The trip will happen, I repeat, the trip WILL happen, but there is the possibility that the meeting place could be moved a few miles if enough of those who have already confirmed going request a different take-out location. Even if this happens, we would still pass through Exit 193 at about 10:15.
Trash: Get a little every time you go!

I'll plan to be at T-Rick's at 10:15 to meet the group. I'll be bringing Crash and her friend Monkey. I hope that's ok!

Just figured I'd put up a quick trip report. The weather was good, about 48*. The water was plentiful and just a little chilly. No one had to get out for any portages. We had 12 or 13 paddlers: Cowper, Debbie, Al, Mikki, Aly, Mandy and her friend Monkey,a biologist named Pedro, his niece Ellie and her maother and grandmother whose names escape me, and myself. I saw about 20 ducks and a beaver, don't know who else saw anything : . And I can't forget to mention the carnage, Al decided to get out of his boat to "use the bathroom" in about 4 feet of water.
I thought it was a good trip, thanks everybody.

Trying to take raft on its maiden voyage tomorrow and catch some fish. Was wondering if anyone knew of a shuttle service in the area or perhaps could work out a shuttle with someone else going. Planning to hit the road early in the a.m. and hoping they are generating some. Releases seem to be unpredictable and not a guaranteed thing, so any beta on that would be much appreciated. WE NEED RAIN.

You're putting a raft in the bayou? Just clarifying.

Correct. One of more than 15 so far this month. User and IP range were banned, I just got lazy and didn't delete the post, which was simply a cut-and-paste from an unrelated thread.
