Any advice for using 303 on gaskets?

Post by randominsects » Thu Jan 03, 2013 2:50 pm

I've had a NRS dry top and pants for around 3 years now and I've never done anything to the gaskets. I picked up some 303 from Ozark today. The bottle says spray on wait 5min then wipe dry. I've read mixed advice from different websites about use. Does anyone have any tips?

I use a soft rag to help massage the 303 into the gasket rubber so that it has that nice shiny, moisturized gleam to it. I do one side, rubbing the 303 to be sure it's worked all into the gasket, and then turn the garment inside out so that I can get the other side as well.

Thanks for the reminder, as I keep meaning to re-treat my gaskets but tend to remember when I'm on the river, and forget when I'm back at home. As a part of my drysuit maintenance I'll wax up my zippers really good too when I do my 303 treatment to keep them sliding smoothly.

Cheers

What Lupe says. If you apply according to need (more usage needs more frequent applications) you try to stay ahead of the game just a bit. You can put too much on or so I've heard.

Pretty hard to apply to gaskets and let set considering how they are formed. Dedicate a soft rag (stored in a ziplock) for your applicator when you do treat them.

We massaged it in with our fingers and wiped it off with a cotton rag after a few minutes. First time doing it though :)

I used to buy zipper wax in a peel back tube, but can no longer find it. Still have one in my ammo box.

Found it - Zipper-ease

Tizip lubricant comes with Stohlquist drysuits (which are plastic or rubber or some combo of both)

Brad - I use one of the McNett zipper wax sticks like zip tech or max wax.
