Fort Smith Roll Sessions (Jan - March)

Post by dcheshier » Wed Jan 02, 2013 10:56 am

The River Valley Chapter of the ACC will hold roll sessions at the Mercy Fitness Center at 7600 Dallas Street in Fort Smith on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of January, February, and March (1/9, 1/23, 2/13, 2/27, 3/13, 3/27) from 6:30 – 8:30 PM. Three lanes of the pool will be available for practice. The cost will be $5 per session for Arkansas Canoe Club members and $8 for everyone else. You must be a paid member of the ACC to get the ACC rate; if you need to know if you are current with your dues, please let me know. (Mercy Fitness members and roll session instructors will be admitted free). Please sign in at the front desk first; there are towels and lockers available. Before bringing you boat into the pool area from the side door, use the hose outside the door to wash your boats; there will be some bleach/water mix available inside to use as well. Get those leaves and other river crud out of your boat please! All participants must shower before entering the pool. We are very fortunate to be able to use the nice facilities at the Mercy Fitness club, so please honor these requirements and make sure that everyone follows their rules.

These roll sessions are intended for boaters who own and bring their own equipment; participants will usually allow others to try out their equipment, but please do not expect someone to supply equipment to you for the whole night unless you have worked that out with them. We hope to have several volunteer instructors at each session to assist people working on their rolls but can not promise the availability of instructors.

For more information, please contact Diane Holwick at 68 rivers at gmail dot com

Hope to see you there!
Diane

BIG thanks to Nick Hobbs, Dave Robertson, J.R. Bergenstock, Michele Jackson, and Karen & Dennis Buccella for helping to facilitate roll sessions this year!

I would encourage everyone to come by and check these sessions out. There is no charge to come watch, meet people, sit in boats, check out gear, get advice, and have a little fun. Stop by for a few minutes or hang out the entire time. Bring the kids and let them see some of the best(and worst) boaters in the area. There is an entrance to the pool that is left of the main entrance. If you enter the pool please abide by the above rules as we are very fortunate to be able to use this facility and do not want to comprimise this luxury

Also we appreciate Diane Holwick for organizing the Roll/Wet Exit Sessions.

Roll Session at Mercy last night was a good one!

Many thanks to Diane, Dennis and Karen, Tommy, JR, Brent, Eric and Nick for coming out to instruct and bring the next generation of boaters!

Everybody pitched in and made sure that we were gracious guests! I was totally impressed with the River Valley ACC volunteers last night.

Many thanks to all for being so generous with their time and talent!
