Today when we shuttle back up to the put in for Gulpha creek Mrs. Faye's son and grandson were outside. Mrs. Faye owns the house where we park to put in. They came over shaking our hands and were extreme grateful for the ACC members clearing her downed trees last weekend. While sitting there BSing with them, the son told us that Jesse James held up a stage coach that was crossing Gulpha creek. The grandson said he found a quarter from the late 1800s. I blew the James story off, but looked it up on the net when I got home. Sure enough, it appears to be true. http://hotspringsdaily.com/hot-springs- ... g-history/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Not only do I have a sweet backyard run 10 minutes from home, but its one with interesting history. This will make the next run a bit more interesting!

Re: Jesse James and Gulpha creek
Thanks for the report. I'm now tempted to hike Gulpha, looking for the road bed that is mentioned in the story. There were at least two places along Hot Springs creek that appeared to be the remains of old, concrete low water crossings. I'm wondering now if they date to this era and the old stagecoach route.
Also, THANK YOU EVERYBODY who stayed or reappeared after the float to help chainsaw and clear a few down limbs from that lady's property. A few minutes of our time, and freeing her car from the snow and down limbs, should go a long way towards good relationships and continued access to the creek at this location! She appreciated the cookies we66erno1 brought her too; and it was that gesture that got me thinking, "what else could we do?"
Just so everyone knows, she did say we should ask permission each time. Remember, we are guests, it is not a public access point!

They were so very nice to all of us yesterday. Thanks, Clay, for looking up the info!
