OT: meteorology: Did it rain mud last night?

Post by Tim Eubanks » Thu Dec 20, 2012 10:24 am

My vehicles looked as though we'd driven 20miles down a dirt road and then drove under a sprinkler. ?? Dust from Texas in the storm front? Mayans?

I noticed that too Tim. I have a utility trailer and noticed the side rails had that same appearance. Curious...

Best Regards

Windshields of our cars, our porch, and the canoes on the racks were muddy with a dusting of snow on them this morning.
I know they were clean yesterday as I washed them after blowing leaves for a few hours. Rain gauge said we got 0.20 inches of rain last night.

Winds been howling all day long with significant gusts over 40MPH. Had a bunch of stuff tied down and or covered over with tarps, and the tarps have looked like parasailers all day long. Glad I did not plan to paddle today. Been there and done that.

I live in Northeast Texas and got the same as you guys. We had some crazy winds with lots of downed tree branches in the yard.

Same thing here in Hiram. Dirty cars and downed limbs and trees. Got a dead tree at the back of the cleared area that was struck by lightening about five years ago. Been shedding limbs already but last night it shed a load that filled a 5x10 trailer.

Piled them on an existing burnpile that will probably go all night long when I fire it up. Kim wants to have some folks around when we burn. Probably cook some dogs and marshmallows. And hot chocolate! Let me know if you want to be here. Got camping spaces or maybe indoor lodging if you wish to stay the night.

Not going to be a new year's burn for sure.

It happens often in west Texas like Amarillo and/or Lubbock.

We get a low volume rainfall that brings down the dust in the air. Cars, etc. look like they have driven through a dirt road or something.

Cars maybe dirty but the air is cleaner!

Ahhhh, West Texas!! Where you can look up into a dust storm and see a ground squirrel digging a hole ten feet in the air!!!

Confirming it was a state-wide event, we got a light muddy rain in Conway as well.

More importantly, Mikki (who posts on this board, and lives a little SW of Clarendon in Eastern Arkansas) was talking to a friend during a break he took from some volunteer work with his wife, cleaning up limbs in a local cemetary. A few minutes later, the man went back to finish the job, and was hit by a falling limb. At last report, he was in the hospital but not expected to survive.
