Want to buy yakima fairing

Post by gma06001- » Mon Oct 22, 2012 8:42 pm

Tired of the awful noise my rack makes on top of the 4runner. Just wanted to see if anyone has a fairing for a yakima rack layin around that i could buy before i go and spend 55 bucks on one from rei. I think either one of the smaller sizes (38 or 48) would work. Thanks for any help!

Have you seen or heard anything about their Windjammer? Seems like it's supposed to make the bars stop whistling and may be more fuel efficient.

I wonder if something similar could be made at home?

I have a Windjammer on my setup (Railgrabs and 78 inch bars on an Expedition) and it works pretty well. 25 bucks (or so) at Ozark Outdoor. I'm sure they'd take it back if it didn't do the trick. They also carry the fairings FYI.
You come too.

I use a Windjammer on my front Yakima bar, and it does a good job of silencing the wind noise. I've also had great results putting pipe insulation on the front bar. Anything that breaks up the air flow will reduce the wind noise.
